Skin Fillers
Do I always need to have a skin test?
There are many forms of Collagen skin fillers, many of which are non
allergic so treatment can start immediately with no skin test.
Does it hurt?
Collagen replacement therapy does involve injections with very
fine needles, depending on which area is being treated this can
cause a slight discomfort. Pain relief in the form of a mild local
anaesthetic is often used. Most people say that the treatment is
uncomfortable rather than painful. A couple of paracetamol an hour
before the treatment is advisable to help with the discomfort.
How often will I need treatment?
There are many different factors which will dictate this. Everyone's
skin is different and will absorb the implants at a different rate
thus affecting time scale. Also to be taken into account are the
type of implants that you choose, we offer a variety of implants as
described in the services section of this site. As a rule of thumb,
top up treatments will be required about twice a year to keep your
look fresh, however, some people do have one off treatments for
special occasions such as weddings and Christmas celebrations.
Is collagen replacement therapy a risky procedure?
The collagen replacement implants used in this treatment are
highly purified forms of collagen taken from natural sources. These
are very similar to the natural collagen that is found in the human
body. Animal collagen has been used in a variety of medical
applications for over 100 years now, these applications include
treatment of sutures and replacing faulty heart valves. Skin tests
are performed to check compatibility with Collagen, only about 1% of
people do experience a mild allergic type reaction usually in the
form of redness, itching or slight swelling around the tested area.
What happens to the collagen afterwards?
The injected collagen does not stay in the skin forever, it is
gradually absorbed into the body as with natural collagen.
